Create Signature

To create a signature, you first need a .JPG (preferred) or .BMP image of the user’s signature. If you have a TWAIN-compliant scanner, and the scanner shows up in the "Select Source" dialog in Nova Signature (File | Select Source), you can acquire the image directly from your scanner within Nova Signature. If not, you will need to scan the signature using the software provided with the scanner, and save it to your local hard drive (or a network drive) as either a .JPG or .BMP.

TIP: the signature should fit within a 0.5" x 2.0" box. For best results, sign the upper left or upper right corner of a piece of paper.

1.   Start Nova Signature by clicking the "Launch Nova Signature" toolbar button in Forms.

2.   Login as supervisor (see note in the Supervisor Functions topic).

3.   Select File | Open from the menu. This will display the "Open an Image File" dialog. Browse to the desired file, click on it, then click the "Open" button. This will open the image.

4.   Crop or Modify the image as necessary (see below).

5.   Select Signatures | Save. This will display the "Signature Users" dialog.

6.   Select the user you wish to attach this signature to and click "OK". Note: if a signature image already exists for this user, you will be prompted to overwrite the existing signature.

7.   The signature image is then encrypted and attached to the selected user.

8.   Repeat for other users as necessary.

Crop a Signature:

1.   Hold down the Shift key

2.   Click and drag your mouse from the upper left to the lower right, selecting the desired region

3.   Once a region has been defined, you can Shift-click and drag any of the handles around the region (there will be 8 of them). An example is shown below.

4.   When satisfied with the selected region, select Image | Crop from the menu bar.

Other signature modifications:

Images can be rotated by selecting Image | Rotate. The "Exact Amount" sub-item is particularly useful in cases where the signature image is just slightly askew from the horizontal.

The image can be sharpened via Image | Change Attributes.
