Nova Diagnostic Utility Features and Functionality

The Nova Diagnostic Utility can be used to display system information, capture and email various information to Day One Tech Support, and run various utility functions, as instructed by Day One Technicians.

Launching the Nova Diagnostic Utility:

Click on Start | Programs | Day One NOVA Products | Diagnostic Utility

In the left pane of the application, you will see a QuickStart Bar, as in other Nova products. Clicking any of the buttons on the QuickStart Bar will display information, or provide access to various functions.

System Info

The System Info screen displays system information about your computer, such as the name of the Temp folder, how much total and available memory your computer has, etc. There is also a "Delete Temp Files" button, which clears out your temp folder. It is recommended that you Shut down and re-start your computer just prior to clicking this button, as Windows, and Windows applications may have a number of these files in use. Shutting down and re-starting will release and/or delete a number of the existing temp files, and clicking the "Delete Temp Files" button will clear out the residue.

Files

The Files screen displays the contents of various configuration files, such as WIN.INI, DAYONE.INI and D1FRMS32.INI. This allows Day One Technicians to find and check certain contents of these files. Any changes made to these files are not saved.

Tech Support

The Tech Support screen allows various files and information to be emailed to Day One Technicians. This includes the AOD32 and D1COMP32 databases, as well as INI files and directory listings. Simply check the appropriate boxes as directed by Day One Technicians, and click the Create button. An email message will be created. Note: in order to work with the majority of mail programs, the file created by the Diagnostic Utility (typically NOVADIAG.ZIP) is NOT automatically attached. This must be done manually. The file can also be created on diskette (not recommended if databases are included), or to a local or network drive for the purpose of writing to a CD or some other media. This is done by selecting the appropriate option (e-Mail, Diskette, Local/Network Drive) at the bottom left of the screen.

Other Utilities

The Other Utilities screen provides access to various functions created by the Day One development staff to address common issues. These items should only be selected and run under direct supervision of Day One Technicians, as adverse effects may result if run inappropriately.

Exit

Exits the utility.
